Ray Wilkins uses Winston Reid to make a point about Matt Miazga

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Matt Miazga in the January transfer window.

Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Ray Wilkins suggested on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (January 28) that Matt Miazga could be a success in the Premier League.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea are interested in signing defender Miazga from New York Red Bulls in the January transfer window.

While many Premier League observers will be sceptical of signing a 20-year-old defender from Major League Soccer, Wilkins has highlighted the success of Winston Reid at West Ham United as a season to be optimistic.

“If you look at Winston Reid, the New Zealand centre-half, they saw him in the World Cup, gone into West Ham and he has really flourished, done very well,” said the former Aston Villa assistant manager on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (January 28) while discussing Miazga.

Reid joined West Ham from Midtjylland in the summer of 2010 and has established himself as one of the key players in the team.

The 27-year-old defender has proved himself in the Premier League and has been successful with the London outfit.

Of course, Reid’s success at the Boleyn Ground does not mean that Miazga will be a hit in the Premier League, but Chelsea fans should be optimistic.

The 20-year-old USA international is a commanding centre-back and is strong in the air. The youngster has good positional sense and awareness, and he will eventually adapt to the Premier League.
