Ray Wilkins predicts League Cup winners

Ray Wilkins On Pitch

Liverpool will face Manchester City in the final of the League Cup next month.

Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Ray Wilkins predicted on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (January 28) that Manchester City will win the League Cup this season.

City will take on Premier League rivals Liverpool at London’s Wembley Stadium in the final of the prestigious cup competition on February 28.

“It should be a good game, shouldn’t it?” said Wilkins. “You have got that energetic style of Klopp against the more controlled style of Manchester City, but you would have to go with City at this moment in time.”

It is hard to predict who will the League Cup final as it is a month away, but City will probably head into the game as favourites.

The Citizens have the better team and have better players, and manager Manuel Pellegrini will not give up on the chance of winning at least one major trophy this season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be determined to win the final as well, especially as this is his first season as Reds manager.

On paper, City should win the final as they have better players, but much will depend on the first goal. If Liverpool score early, then their high-pressing game will cause problems for Pellegrini’s team.
