The West Ham coach has waxed lyrical about the Frenchman.
Indeed, Dicks is delighted with the 28-year-old's 'fantastic' work rate and is impressed with his willingness to run back and defend even during the 90th minute.
Di Canio is a West Ham legend but, with time, there's no reason Payet won't reach that status among fans at Upton Park.
And Dicks is quoted as saying by the Star: "Payet. One hundred per cent.
"There are similarities. But with Dimitri, he has all the ability in the world but his work rate is fantastic. You have fantastic players and you let them get on with it.
"But he’s running back to defend in the 90th minute. It rubs off. You take your team-mates with you. He’s very calm on the ball. Many people can see a pass but very few can execute it."
Payet's return from injury recently came against Liverpool, when he was brought on as a second-half substitute.
West Ham won that game and now have the chance to win three out of three against the Reds this season.
The Frenchman will likely play an important part if the Hammers are to achieve the feat, as they travel to Anfield during Saturday's late kick-off in the FA Cup.
