The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder might just get a chance to shine in February.
Tottenham Hotspur were recently dealt a blow after Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen picked up a knee injury in the game with Crystal Palace.
He is set for a number of weeks out of action and that is certainly a blow to the Belgian and Spurs as a whole.
However it may afford a chance to one Tottenham Hotspur player to earn back his first-team spot.
Nabil Bentaleb has battled with injuries this season which has seen the Algerian watch the likes of Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli and Eric Dier overtake him in the pecking order for midfield.
But with Vertonghen out injured Bentaleb might have a chance.
One potential option to solve their now centre-back problem could be to slot Dier back into a central defensive role, leaving a gap in midfield for someone to fill.
Bentaleb will now doubt hope that he is that man. He will have competition of course, with Tom Carroll and Ryan Mason back in training from Monday.
But the Algerian international will back himself to take up the role if Dier does end up moving back on the pitch.
