Barnsley fans react on Twitter to Leeds United's opening Sam Winnall bid

Leeds United failed in an attempt to sign Barnsley's Sam Winnall.

Leeds United last night failed in an attempt to sign Barnsley forward Sam Winnall.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported Leeds made an offer of £300,000 for the striker, while there have also been suggestions that not all of this figure was to be paid up front.

Winnall is Barnsley's top scorer with 14 goals this season, and the Tykes are reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post to want at least £1 million.

Fellow League One forward Connor Washington was sold by Peterborough to QPR for £2.5 million this month, a figure which makes Leeds' opening bid for Winnall look derisory.

Leeds are attempting to sign another striker with Chris Wood suffering injury problems, and Mirco Antenucci being in the final six months of his contract.

Winnall's side Barnsley are currently in 13th place in League One, but selling their top scorer late in the transfer window without time to sign a replacement could make for a tricky second half of the campaign.

Barnsley fans are not impressed with the bid from Leeds United. Here is a look at how they reacted via Twitter...
