HITC Sport understands Wigan have agreed a deal for the midfielder from League One rivals.
Wigan have been chasing Morsy for several weeks now and they have reached an agreement with League One rivals Chesterfield for his signature.
The 24-year-old has impressed at Chesterfield since joining the club from Port Vale in 2013 and his performances have alerted a number of clubs.
Several Championship sides have shown an interest in Morsy, but Wigan have moved quickly to agree a deal for the player.
Morsy is out of contract at the end of the season and Chesterfield have reluctantly agreed to cash-in on the all-action midfielder now rather than letting him leave for free in the summer.
Losing Morsy will come as a major blow to Chesterfield as they looked to keep hold of their captain as they battle to stay up in League One.
Wigan have been busy in the transfer market as they look to build a squad capable of winning promotion back to the Championship and Morsy is set to join Crewe's Ryan Colclough in becoming the latest new arrivals at the DW Stadium.
