Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer sends unfortunate tweet, fans respond

Tottenham need Kevin Wimmer to be composed and not chaotic this weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur proudly possess the best defensive record in the Premier League, but their steadiness is threatened by a MCL injury suffered by Jan Vertonghen.

Next man up is summer signing Kevin Wimmer, who has been biding his time since signing in the summer from Cologne and spending life on the bench.

What Spurs need is a low-key, seamless transition - what Wimmer pledged on Twitter is quite the opposite.

He wrote: "Time to cause chaos!!", the last thing Spurs need from the Austrian heading into a critical part of the season.

He had an innocent enough explanation, he was promoting his new Adidas X+ boots, which are marketed with the slogan to urging those wearing them to cause chaos.

It works a lot better for an attacker rather than a centre-back trying to ensure his presence is barely noticeable, and fans responded wittily to his comment.

Wimmer is expected to start against Colchester United in the FA Cup this weekend, followed by Premier League matches against Norwich and Watford.

After that is a far tougher test against Manchester City, before Europa League ties against Fiorentina, while he is still expected to be required to face Arsenal in early March.
