Report: West Ham's striker search takes bizarre twist after receiving Payet offer

Payet Skill

Galatasaray have reportedly asked for Dimitri Payet in exchange for Burak Yilmaz.

According to the Daily Mirror, West Ham's bid to sign Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz has taken a bizarre turn, after the Turkish giants asked for Dimitri Payet in exchange.

The Hammers have been searching for a new striker during this month's transfer window, given that Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho are both currently injured.

The Mirror report that West Ham are close to agreeing a deal to sign Fenerbahce hitman Emmanuel Emenike on loan, but have also been pursuing Galatasaray's Burak Yilmaz.

It's stated that West Ham have been looking into the possibility of bringing Yilmaz to Upton Park, but Galatasaray are only open to selling their 30-year-old goal machine, rather than allow him to leave the club on loan.

Bizarrely, it's also claimed that Galatasaray stunned West Ham by proposing a swap deal involving Yilmaz and Hammers superstar Dimitri Payet.

Payet, 28, has notched six goals and four assists since arriving from Marseille over the summer, and his skill and creativity has made him a fan favourite at Upton Park.

It's inconceivable to even think of West Ham selling Payet, never mind exchanging him for a 30-year-old striker with no Premier League experience - and The Mirror report that West Ham immediately rejected the proposal, making a deal for Emenike even more likely.

Would you rather see West Ham sign Emenike or Yilmaz?
