Reports suggest double Liverpool blow from Bundesliga in one day as Matip and Xhaka are set to stay

The Reds do not look like snapping up Joel Matip or Granit Xhaka anytime soon.

Since the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as manager at Liverpool the Anfield club have been linked with several top Bundesliga talents, as was inevitable.

Two of the most popular names are Joel Matip of Schalke 04 and Granit Xhaka of Borussia Monchengladbach.

The two players are considered among the best talents in German football and Liverpool would do well to bring them in.

However, in one day, Liverpool have been told in unceremonious terms, that neither player will be heading to Anfield in the summer.

Firstly, Matip. The Cameroonian defender is out of contract in the summer, which saw Liverpool linked with a January move.

But Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt stated to his press conference today:

Whilst chairman Clemens Tonnies told Sport1 that the claims were 'a hoax'.

Meanwhile Max Eberl, the sporting director at Borussia Monchengladbach has been quoted by Sky Sports as stating:

"Granit Xhaka won't be leaving the club during the winter break - that's for sure. I'm looking forward to his return."

So it would seem that neither player will be making a move to the Premier League this month.

However, with Matip out of contract and Xhaka believed to be keen on a new challenge, there is no doubt that Liverpool will be linked again come the summer.
