Report: Everton have £13.7m bid for Islam Slimani rejected

Everton have submitted a formal approach for Islam Slimani.

Everton have had an offer for Islam Slimani rejected, France Football reports.

The Merseyside club are hot on the tail of Slimani, who currently turns out for Sporting of Portugal.

The 27-year-old attacker, an Algerian international, has consistently impressed in Portugal, and he has 16 goals and three assists in 18 league games this term.

He is a prolific goalscorer who has long been tipped for a move to the Premier League, and the Toffees are making a move to get him to Goodison Park before the end of the January transfer window.

They have submitted a bid of roughly £13.7 million (€18m) for the striker, which was swiftly rejected by Sporting, who do not want to sell their prize asset.

However, Sporting will have no option to accept a bid if it matches Slimani’s release clause, which is reported as being roughly £23 million (€30m).

The player obviously still has to opt for the move, but if Everton raise their bid by another £10 million, they will increase their chances of bringing in the attacker.

It is not stated in the report whether Everton are ready to return to Sporting with an improved offer.
