Peter Reid says Christian Eriksen cannot tackle

Christian Eriksen is one of the best players at Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Sunderland and Leeds United manager Peter Reid said on the Goals on Sunday show on Sky Sports 1 on Sunday morning (January 24) that Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen cannot tackle.

While praising the work done by head coach Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs, Reid said: “Pochettino has done a great job. Without the ball, fantastic shift, all over the park.

“I mean, the likes of Eriksen, who can’t really tackle, gets there, does his job, don’t have to win it. He has done unbelievable.”

Eriksen is one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League, but does he really lack in the tackling department?

During the 2013-14 campaign, the Denmark international won 19 of the 44 tackles he made in 25 Premier League appearances.

Last season, the 23-year-old won 40 of the 94 tackles he attempted in 38 league matches. So far this campaign, Eriksen has won 22 of the 40 tackles he has gone for in 20 Premier League games.

While it is clear from the stats that the Tottenham attacking midfielder needs to improve on his tackling skill, it is a bit harsh to claim that he cannot tackle.

Spurs are fourth in the Premier League table at the moment with 42 points from 23 matches, just five points behind leaders Leicester City.
