BBC commentator John Motson says Tottenham knew about Dele Alli even before he made his debut.
Legendary BBC commentator John Motson has revealed how Tottenham Hotspur scout David Pleat tipped him off about Dele Alli's talent back in 2012.
Speaking to BBC 5 Live, Motson said that Pleat described Alli as a future star back when he made his debut for MK Dons.
Alli signed for Tottenham last January, before being loaned back to MK Dons, but after joining the club in the summer he has become one of the top Premier League performers, and an England international.
Motson said: "Dele Alli, what a discovery. I remember David Pleat telling me when he was 15 when he made his debut for MK Dons, keep your eye on this boy... and where's he ended up?
"A previous generation he may have ended up at Manchester United. Now he's at Tottenham."
Motson also had praise for two Tottenham players signed by the now departed director Franco Baldini back in 2013.
He said: "The Bale money wasn't wasted altogether, look at Lamela, and Chadli."
Tottenham have been winning plaudits for their recent performances, which have put them into fourth place in the table, just five points off the top.
Alli has been a key part of that, establishing himself as a regular, and scoring six league goals already this campaign. A place at Euro 2016 with England looks like an inevitable reward.
