Birmingham striker Alex Jones set for move

Birmingham City FC - St. Andrews

HITC Sport understands front-man is destined for loan spell.

Birmingham City are set to let striker Alex Jones leave the club on loan this month, HITC Sport understands.

A number of clubs are looking at the 21-year-old, who moved to St Andrews in the summer when he left Premier League neighbours West Bromwich Albion.

Jones has been on the fringes of Gary Rowett's squad this season but has tasted first-team football during a loan spells with National League outfit Grimsby Town.

However, HITC Sport understands a host of League Two clubs are chasing his signature - but he could very well be heading further afield.

It is understood that Australian A-League side Wellington Phoenix are looking to sign him on-loan for the rest of the season.

If the New Zealand-based outfit manage to land him, he would stay with them until the end of their season, which is April.

Birmingham are in good form at present, rising into play-off contention, which has left competition for places at the club at a high standard.
