Report: Andros Townsend to triple his wages in Newcastle United switch

The winger is set for a big boost to his current pay packet at White Hart Lane.

Andros Townsend is set to triple his wages should he complete a move from Tottenham to Newcastle United, reports the Mirror.

The winger is set to complete a move from London the North East this week, with both clubs having finally settled on a £12million fee after weeks of speculation surrounding a move.

Townsend has fallen far down the pecking order at White Hart Lane, having spent the last few months plying his trade with the Under 21 side.

First team football is sure to be more forthcoming at St James’ Park, however, that is not the only thing that Townsend will be gaining from the move.

He is currently paid £16,500 a week at White Hart Lane, but that is set to triple that to £55,000-a-week with Newcastle according to the Mirror report, with them offering him big money to lure him to the club.

It may be some time before they get a serious return on their latest investment though, with him currently short on match fitness.

He has managed just 64 minutes in the Premier League so far this season and has not played a full 90 minutes for nearly two years after falling out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino.

That means he is far more likely to be featuring from the bench for the next few weeks, with Magpies fans sure to be hoping he can make some sort of contribution to their fight against relegation.
