Sunderland have agreed a fee for the transfer of Lamine Kone, Sky Sports report.
The Ivorian centre-back has been the subject of a bid from the Black Cats, which has been accepted by Ligue 1 side Lorient.
Contract talks are to be started, and a deal is close to completion for Sam Allardyce to add the international defender to his ranks at the Stadium of Light.
A report published by FootMercato yesterday claims that, after missing out on Kone twice already this month, Sunderland will offer a vastly improved wage to the centre-back to convince him to move to Wearside.
The Guardian reported earlier this month that the Black Cats cancelled a deal to sign Kone, and then failed in a move to sign him on loan.
However, they have gone back in for him and are hoping to wrap the deal up before the end of the week.
Sunderland have already added Jan Kirchhoff, Dame N’Doye and Steve Harper this month, and are not yet finished with their transfer business.
