Sunderland have been hoping to sign a new centre-back this month.
The Black Cats have been looking to add a new centre-back to their ranks this month, and the report indicates that they are currently trying to wrap up a deal for Lamine Kone of Lorient.
However, whilst that deal has taken much of the month to see through, the Wearside club have also been looking at other targets to bring in.
One of them, Fabian Schar, currently plays for Bundesliga club Hoffenheim. Since moving to the club from Basel over the summer, the 2-year-old Swiss international has established himself as a reliable defender.
The Black Cats also looked at the Premier League for the other target, with Stoke City’s Marc Wilson said to have been of interest. The 28-year-old has played just nine times in all competitions this season, and he could be looking to leave the Britannia Stadium for greener pastures should his playing situation not improve.
However, it appears as if the move for Kone is now set to go through, removing the need for Sunderland to sign either Schar or Wilson.
They will revive their interest in the pair if the Kone deal falls though again.
