Newcastle are a short way off Lazio’s valuation of Eddy Onazi.
Newcastle have not yet matched Lazio’s valuation of Eddy Onazi, TMW reports.
The report claims that Lazio are willing to cash in on the 23-year-old midfielder, but they are looking for at least £6 million (€8m) for his services.
Steve McClaren is a big fan of the midfielder, and although he ha already added Henri Saivet and Jonjo Shelvey to his ranks, he is keen to bring in a more versatile player.
Onazi can play in a holding role, or as a more box-to-box presence, and he will provide energy in the middle of the park. Capped 38 times for Nigeria, he will face no issues earning a work permit either, making him a valuable signing.
However, Newcastle would only offer £5.3 million for his services, and despite the fee being close to Lazio’s asking price, the Serie A club would not budge on their valuation.
They want another £700,000 more before they consider selling the midfielder, who has featured just six times in the league this season.
There are no indications in the report that Newcastle are ready to raise their bid for Onazi, as we head into the final stages of the transfer window.
