Jurgen Klopp has already met with the agent of Granit Xhaka, SportBILD reports.
The Liverpool head coach is a big fan of the Gladbach midfielder, and he wants to bring him to Anfield as he sees Xhaka as an ‘aggressive leader’ for his team.
It is unlikely that Xhaka will be leaving Gladbach this month, although a summer exit from the Bundesliga is expected, and Klopp has already held meetings with the player’s representatives to gain an advantage in the race for his signature.
The report claims that a number of Europe’s biggest clubs are tracking Xhaka, and Klopp wants to be at the front of the queue and agree a deal in principal before the end of the season.
Xhaka, 23, is a 39-time capped Swiss international who has played for Gladbach since the summer of 2012. The Basel youth product has played 127 games for the Bundesliga club, establishing himself as one of the most highly regarded holding midfielders in Europe.
