Michael Owen expressed his shock at Everton being in the bottom half of the table on Wednesday night... before being berated by fans on Twitter.
Indeed, Owen says he's impressed every time he watches the Merseyside outfit and made his comments while they were in pole position to knock Manchester City out of the League Cup on Wednesday.
They duly lost - but the pundit is still at a loss as to why Everton aren't in the top half of the top flight.
Every time I watch Everton I'm impressed. How the hell are they in the bottom half of The Premier League?— michael owen (@themichaelowen) January 27, 2016
In a way, you could forgive a former striker for not being able to see Everton's gaping flaws. After all, going forward is where they have often impressed this season.
Right now, though, even that is failing the Toffees. And, defensively, it is an absolute train wreck under Roberto Martinez.
Here, then, is how many responded to another 'Captain Obvious' type statement from Owen. Things aren't looking good for Everton right now...
@themichaelowen They don't have enough points to be in the top half, Michael.— Brian (@Brianzy24) January 27, 2016
@themichaelowen You know them two white poles at the end of the pitch, you know with the one across the top and a net - they cant find it!— ismcgr (@Ismcgr) January 27, 2016
