Liverpool defeated Stoke City on penalties on Tuesday evening, securing their passage to the League Cup Final.
Joe Allen score the decisive spot-kick, having seen Simon Mignolet save a poor attempt from Erik Pieters.
The victory gives Liverpool their first chance of silverware since the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as head coach, and they await their opponents in the Final, who will be decided this evening as Everton travel to Manchester City.
Aside from winning the game, there was one other highlight for Liverpool, with Jon Flanagan back in the starting line-up after his long-term injury.
Having established himself as one of the best young English defenders during the 2013/14 campaign, Flanagan missed all of last season through injury.
He came back as a substitute in the FA Cup tie against Exeter last week, and his appearance against Stoke was his first start since May 2014.
The 23-year-old played 106 minutes of the game before being withdrawn, featuring at right-back, rather than the left-back position in which he established himself in under Brendan Rodgers.
He put in an assured display, as if he had never been away injured, and fans are ready to see Flanagan start making his way back into the team in the Premier League.
Following the fixture, Liverpool fans reacted to his performance against Stoke, with many praising the full-back for his return to fitness and form.
Would be interesting to play Flanagan and Clyne at full back. Similar to what Rodgers did with Johnson and Flanagan in 2014 #LFC— Steve Whillans (@steve_whillans) January 27, 2016
How great was it to see Flanagan starting again for #lfc last night? Thought he had a good game, we've missed his passion & determination.— Sam Ellard (@SamEllard) January 27, 2016
Clyne just lost his place to Flanagan. Only matter of time before Moreno loses his spot to Brad Smith or Clyne as makeshift #LFC— Man of Justice (@SuperGops) January 27, 2016
Special congratulations to my favorite player. The scouse Cafu: fought like a lion today 20 months from his last start. Jon Flanagan #LFC— Faisal Agha (@Fagha10) January 27, 2016
