Could Cameron Carter-Vickers now get his chance in Tottenham's match-day squad?

The young Tottenham Hotspur centre-back has a very bright future ahead of him.

Following the news that Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has suffered medial collateral ligament damage in his knee, manager Mauricio Pochettino has some decisions to make for the upcoming matches.

The easiest and most likely of those is to promote Kevin Wimmer to the starting line-up where he will play alongside Toby Alderweireld, but there are also other things to factor in, most importantly who will act as defensive cover on the bench.

Eric Dier is more than capable of playing at the back; the problem is the England international is fast becoming one of the best holding midfielders in the country. So could Pochettino give a talented teenager his chance?

Federico Fazio could return to the match-day squad in the short-term but there is an intriguing alternative, and that would be to promote 18-year-old Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The young American is widely regarded as the most talented centre-back to come through the Tottenham ranks for some time, and his maturity belies his age.

Carter-Vickers is yet to make his Spurs debut but he was named on the bench for their Europa League tie with AS Monaco last month and it would be no surprise if he was back among the substitutes in the coming weeks.

There is some way to go before Carter-Vickers is ready for Tottenham’s first-team on a regular basis, but as an option from the bench he should certainly be considered.
