West Ham United are enjoying a wonderful season under manager Slaven Bilic, with the majority of their summer signings hitting the ground running and Dimitri Payet staking a claim to be the standout purchase of the year.
But it seems the Hammers are not standing still, with the Sun claiming Bilic wants to tie up a deal for Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi before the summer, with the player then moving to London in time for the next campaign.
If that is true, it shows West Ham are not only aiming to continue their brilliant recent record in the transfer market but actually trump it, with Batshuayi regarded as one of the finest young strikers in Europe.
West Ham’s move to a new stadium and their bid for European football will certainly be appealing factors, as will Bilic’s presence, and if Batshuayi does arrive it could mark a great new era at the Hammers.
After all, at 28 Payet is approaching the final few years of his top-flight career, and while he still has much to offer, the 22-year-old Batshuayi is still years away from his peak.
With the Belgian playing in front of the majestic Frenchman West Ham could push for the top four, especially if a few more canny additions are made.
There is still some way to go, but Sam Byram looks destined to be a star and if West Ham can secure a permanent deal for Manuel Lanzini then next year could be a very exciting one for the club and their supporters.
