Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore suggested on the Call Collymore show on talkSPORT on Saturday evening (January 23) that Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur will not win the Premier League title this season.
While discussing the title race in which Arsenal and Manchester City are also involved, Collymore said: “Have we not learned anything that the end of March and virtually all of April is when things start to separate?
“Clubs with big squads, big quality start to get a bit of a gap between them and others. Now I am happy to put my neck on the line here and say that for both Spurs and for Leicester (winning the title is not possible). Spurs because in the attacking area of the pitch there is no back-up for Harry Kane.
“What if he starts to miss games with suspensions, injuries, whatever,” added the former Nottingham Forest striker.
Most Premier League observers will back City or Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season because of the quality of their squads. Moreover, the City and the Arsenal players have been in similar situations before.
Leicester have been the surprise package of the season, while Tottenham’s main objective at the start of the campaign was to finish in the top four.
However, one has to admit that both Leicester and Spurs are genuine contenders for the league title. After all, the Foxes are three points clear at the top and Mauricio Pochettino’s side are only five points behind them.
Leicester’s bubble has not burst yet, and perhaps it will not this season. As for Tottenham, they have lost fewer Premier League games than City and Arsenal this campaign.
