Report: Southampton not open to selling Victor Wanyama; Tottenham not prioritising central midfielder this month

St Marys Southampton

Tottenham are not pushing to sign Southampton’s Victor Wanyama this month.

Southampton have no intention of selling Victor Wanyama this month, Sky Sports report.

The midfielder was linked with a move to Spurs by the Sun, with Mauricio Pochettino reportedly keen to reunite with the player who performed so well for the head coach at St Mary’s Stadium.

However, he is a key figure in Southampton’s first-team, and the report claims that the Saints are very against selling the Kenyan midfielder any time soon.

It is stated that he would only be sold should ‘a stupid offer’ be made for his services, and there are even indications that contract talks have opened between Wanyama and Southampton officials.

For Spurs, this does not seem to be a huge issue, as the report also plays down their interest in signing Wanyama this month.

Whilst Pochettino us known to be a big fan of the 24-year-old, he has no plans to sign a central midfielder this month, as he is content with the current options at White Hart Lane.

The breakthrough of Eric Dier as a midfielder, and the return to form of both Mousa Dembele and Tom Carroll has reduced the need for Pochettino to strengthen his midfield right now.

It is not known whether Pochettino will look to sign Wanyama in the summer transfer window, but bringing in a new central midfielder is at the back of his thoughts in the last week of the transfer window.
