Report: Aston Villa join race for Ivorian striker Seydou Doumbia

The forward has struggled form form since swapping Moscow for Rome.

Aston Villa appear to be doomed, despite their little unbeaten spell, to life in the Football League from the end of this season. They look cut adrift at the bottom of the Premier League at the moment and efforts to bring in new players in the transfer market have failed.

Now it appears they are hopeful of bringing in Mathieu Debuchy from Arsenal and now another big name has been linked with a move to Villa Park.

The player in question is Seydou Doumbia - who has also been linked with a heap of other Premier League teams.

The Ivorian striker is set to leave Roma this month after a disappointing stint with the Giallorossi and plenty of clubs have been credited with an interest.

Now Calcio Web in Italy is suggesting that Fenerbahce are in pole position to sign Doumbia - but that Aston Villa are not far behind in the battle for his signature.

Doumbia would add some attacking prowess to an Aston Villa side struggling to squeeze the best out of Rudy Gestede and Libor Kozak.

Doumbia was a goal-machine in Russian football with CSKA Moscow but has struggled to make any impact in Italy since his 2015 move to the capital.
