Report: Aston Villa agree to put recall clause in Mathieu Debuchy loan deal

Aston Villa

Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy is set to complete a move to Aston Villa in the coming days, according to reports.

According to the London Evening Standard, Remi Garde has agreed to allow Arsenal to recall Mathieu Debuchy from his loan spell at Aston Villa at any time.

Villa are desperate to sign Debuchy from Arsenal, and the French defender has indicated a willingness to move to Remi Garde’s side.

The deal was originally being held up, as Villa were not keen to put in a clause to allow Arsenal to recall the 30-year-old.

However, with Sunderland ready to pounce if the move collapsed, Villa have agreed to compromise to ensure that they get the right back.

Debuchy is now expected to complete a move to Villa in the next few days.

Arsenal are likely to use Calum Chambers as their second choice right back, if Hector Bellerin does get injured, but Arsene Wenger was unwilling to sanction the transfer without having the security of a recall clause.

Debuchy has played just seven times for Arsenal this season, but he will need to hit the ground running if he is to help Villa avoid the drop.
