Paul Merson on the major flaw in Alan Pardew’s style

Crystal Palace are currently winless in six games in the Premier League.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, broadcast from 12:30pm January 23, Paul Merson says Alan Pardew suffers from a lack of average performances as a manager.

Crystal Palace had started the season strongly this year, with a series of impressive performances seeing them challenging at the top end of the table.

However, things have soured in recent weeks, with them currently six games without a win in the Premier League, five of which they failed to score in.

And Merson says that is a major problem with Alan Pardew teams, they either perform to their best or to their worst, they do not put in average displays.

I’m a big fan of Alan Pardew, but he goes through phases,” he told Soccer Saturday.

“He wins a lot of games, and loses a lot of games. There’s no in-between with him. He never goes along, it’s right up there or right down there.”

The point about a lack of middle ground is certainly a prevalent one from Merson, with Palace only having managed four draws this season.

That is the joint lowest tally in the division alongside Sunderland, again demonstrating that it has very much been win or lose for Pardew’s side this season.

They will be hoping they can change that in the second half of the campaign, with the potential addition of a striker in the January transfer window likely to be key to turning around their current poor form.
