Middlesbrough are poised to sign Southampton's Gaston Ramirez to boost their promotion bid, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Ramirez has found himself out of favour at Southampton and he has been told he does not figure in Ronald Koeman's long-term plans.
The Uruguayan is out of contract at St Mary's at the end of the season and he will not be offered a new deal as Southampton want Ramirez off their wage bill
The 25-year-old joined Hull City on loan last season and scored just one goal in 21 appearances for the Tigers as they suffered relegation from the Premier League.
Ramierz initially impressed at Southampton after joining the club from Bologna in the summer of 2012, but he has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the side since Koeman's arrival.
A number of clubs have been linked with a move for Ramirez, but Middlesbrough have moved quickly to agree a loan deal for the skilful midfielder.
Boro boss Aitor Karanka is keen to add to his attacking options as he looks to get his side's promotion bid back on track after two successive defeats.
Ramierz's arrival at Middlesbrough could speed up the departure of loanee Diego Fabbrini to Championship rivals Birmingham City.
