Leeds United midfielder Luke Murphy was substituted after an hour against Brentford.
Luke Murphy was substituted after just an hour against Brentford last night to make way for new Leeds signing Toumani Diagouraga.
Murphy's departure coincided with an improvement from Leeds, who had been woeful in the first half. Their midfield had allowed Sam Saunders to run through and score from the edge of the box unchallenged, and only a late strike from Mustapha Carayol rescued a point.
Post game statistics show Murphy managed just 36 touches, with his only shot landing off target. He made two tackles and one interception, completing 76 per cent of his passes.
The 26-year-old has six goals over the past two seasons, but this time around he is yet to net in 22 appearances, and last night was typical of his struggles to impose himself on games defensively or offensively.
It was little surprise when he was substituted, and with Diagouraga signed, Murphy may find himself set for a spell on the sidelines.
There is competition for places from Lewis Cook, Alex Mowatt, Liam Bridcutt and Tom Adeyemi, plus young prospect Kalvin Phillips.
Supporters last night were far from impressed with his performance, taking to Twitter to express their views. Here is a look at the reaction to Murphy's display...
What does Luke Murphy bring to the team? Question needs to be asked... #lufc— Parma D™ (@Parma__D) January 26, 2016
I'm a big admirer of Luke Murphy but I think it might be time to have him gently put to sleep for his own sake. #lufc— Tommy D (@tdski_LUFC) January 26, 2016
Fingers crossed for something better from #lufc and would it be asking too much for Luke Murphy to do something?— Scarlett Louise Gray (@ScarlettLouiseG) January 26, 2016
At Griffin Park. Does Luke Murphy actually exist as a football playing entity? Not sure I believe the idea myself #lufc— Nile Amos (@nileamos) January 26, 2016
Murphy should be nowhere near the squad not to mind first 11. #lufc— Irish_Leeds (@Irish_Leeds) January 26, 2016
