Jack Sullivan confirms Carl Jenkinson will not play again this season

The West Ham United loanee is side-lined through injury.

Jack Sullivan – the son of West Ham United joint chairman David Sullivan – has confirmed on Twitter that right-back Carl Jenkinson has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old is currently on loan at the Hammers from Arsenal, but after coming off just 13 minutes into the weekend clash against Manchester City it has now been revealed that his injury is a lot worse than previously believed.

“Carl Jenkinson’s injury is far more serious than we thought and he is out for the rest of the season,” Sullivan wrote on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon.

That makes the timing of Sam Byram’s transfer to the Hammers from Upton Park all the more fortuitous, with the youngster now set to feature prominently for Slaven Bilic’s side in the weeks ahead.

Jenkinson was enjoying his second loan spell at Upton Park, but after 23 appearances this season he will now begin the long road to recovery.

He had already slipped down the pecking order in recent weeks, yet it still comes as a huge blow both for West Ham and his parent club Arsenal who will have been hoping he got plenty of football this season.
