Former coach doubts how long Georginio Wijnaldum will stay at Newcastle United

Fred Rutten is not convinced that the Dutchman will be at St James Park for long.

Newcastle United have struggled for form this season but one of their success stories has been summer signing Georgino Wijnaldum.

The former PSV Eindhoven midfielder has been in great form for Newcastle this term - even managing to hit the back of the net 10 times in 25 appearances.

One man who is not surprised to hear of Wijnaldum's good form is Fred Rutten. The Dutch coach managed Wijnaldum for one season at PSV Eindhoven and believes Wijnaldum has what it takes to become the next Holland captain after Arjen Robben retires.

But he doesn't see him sticking around at Newcastle for too long.

He is quoted by SoccerNews as stating:

"It does mot surprise me he is doing so well at Newcastle, Gini is a smart football player and a player with tremendous lung capacity, he is exactly the player Newcastle needed it.

"If anyone has dynamism and power, then Gini doe. I think he is very clever what he does and who knows how long he still plays at Newcastle. Gini can certainly play higher.

"Gini has a good heart, is a true leader. When Arjen Robben soon stops at Orange, Gini is definitely a candidate to succeed him as captain. I see him a big role way down in the Dutch national team."

Newcastle fans will no doubt be fully aware that they will be fielding offers for the 25-year-old in the years to come and at one point they might even have to let him go.

For now however they will be hoping that Wijnaldum will continue to impress on Tyneside as the club look to fight off relegation once again this term.
