Crystal Palace have snapped up Emmanuel Adebayor on a free transfer.
Crystal Palace have confirmed on their official website that they have signed striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a free transfer.
Adebayor, 31, has enjoyed a long career in the Premier League, turning out for Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, racking up 122 goals during his time with those three clubs.
However, having fallen out of favour at Tottenham, the Togolese hitman was released by boss Mauricio Pochettino in September - but due to his exit coming outside of the transfer window, he couldn't join another Premier League team until this month.
Now, Adebayor is back, having signed a contract with Crystal Palace until the end of the season, giving the Eagles a much-needed boost in front of goal.
Saturday's 3-1 home defeat to Tottenham ended a five-game run with a goal for Alan Pardew's men, but even that strike against Spurs was a Jan Vertonghen own goal, meaning a Palace player hasn't scored in the Premier League since Decmeber the 19th.
Proven goalscorer Adebayor has been brought in to solve that problem, and the goal-starved Palace fans took to Twitter after the announcement to give their verdict on the signing.
Many fans are excited to see Adebayor in action, and noted that they couldn't have even dreamt of signing a player of his calibre when they went into administration six years ago.
Others aren't quite so convinced by Adebayor, with some believing that he won't make the desired impact at Selhurst Park.
Here are some of the reactions from Palace fans after the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor...
It'll be interesting to see how it turns out but there can't be many of us who would've thought that Yohan and EA would ever play for #cpfc— Joniesta (@iamthejlaw) January 26, 2016
Have to admit I am very sceptical about Adebayor signing for #CPFC. Then again, I was very optimistic about Wickham...— MΔTTJENNER (@mattjenner94) January 26, 2016
Give Adebayor the service and he will score goals buzzing to see him at #cpfc— Tony (@mazey16) January 26, 2016
I am ridiculously excited about seeing Adebayor playing for #cpfc— Jay Knowles (@JayKnowles1) January 26, 2016
Signing Adebayor is huge for palace. Definitely showing how we are here to win #CPFC— Martha Ridgway (@martharidg) January 26, 2016
I think we can safely say that Adebayor is a maverick, so should be a good fit #Cpfc— paul dewey (@chopmanski) January 26, 2016
Just seen Adebayor news. I should be happy we're getting an ex-Real Madrid player on a free. But... not him. #CPFC— Lawrence Allan (@LobAllan) January 26, 2016
