Avellino reportedly contact Mirco Antenucci's entourage; meeting tomorrow to discuss bid

Could the Leeds United striker be on his way this month?

According to a report from Italian website Tuttomercatoweb Avellino have joined the race to sign Leeds United striker Mirco Antenucci and have made initial contact with the player’s entourage.

The 31-year-old is out of contract in the summer and with just five goals in 27 appearances this season it is fair to say things have not gone quite according to plan.

Chris Wood was signed in the summer and he is first-choice striker when fit, while Souleymane Doukara has recently turned a big corner in his Leeds career leaving Antenucci to make do with a bit-part role of late.

Leeds have already signed a few players this month and look set to add more before the transfer window closes, but it would also be no surprise if a few players waved goodbye.

If Leeds manager Steve Evans signs another new forward Antenucci will surely know his time is up, making a possible return to his homeland all the more enticing.

The TMW report claims Avellino will meet tomorrow to discuss whether or not to make a concrete bid for Antenucci, and given his talent in front of goal he could prove to be something of a steal considering his contract situation.
