Emmanuel Adebayor signed for Crystal Palace yesterday, with the club confirming a deal on their official website.
Adebayor was a free agent after being released by Tottenham Hotspur early in the season, having failed to clinch a transfer away during the summer window.
A club he was strongly linked to was Aston Villa, with The Mirror reporting in July that the club had opened talks with Adebayor over a switch.
Adebayor was a player known to then boss Tim Sherwood, who had helped him reach double figures during the second half of the 2013/14 season when he was Tottenham head coach.
Villa elected not to take a gamble, and now the Togo striker has a chance to show the club it was a missed opportunity.
Sherwood was sacked by Villa in October after a poor start to the season, and replacement Remi Garde has fared little better.
Villa have won only two league games all season, one under each manager, and have just 13 points, 10 behind 17th place.
They did not elect to make a u-turn on their decision to snub Adebayor. The good news is he cannot come to haunt them directly, with Villa and Palace playing twice already this season, but he can make the board look foolish - or wise - not to pursue a deal.
Here is a look at how fans reacted to missing out on the striker...
