Andros Townsend is closing on an exit from Tottenham Hotspur.
The England international winger has been cast aside by first team coach Mauricio Pochettino over the past few months, and the 24-year-old has been playing with the under-21s instead.
Last night he could not help the young Spurs side slipping to defeat against Liverpool, losing 2-0.
After the game he appeared to confirm his impending departure, sending a message to his under-21 teammates via Twitter, expressing how much he enjoyed being part of the group.
Been an absolute pleasure playing with the u21 boys the last 3 or 4 months! pic.twitter.com/twToa07moe— andros townsend (@andros_townsend) January 25, 2016
While he was in action last night, a report was published in The Guardian claiming a bid had been accepted from Newcastle United for his services.
The report claims Spurs have compromised on their demands for £14 million, and a deal will go through over the next 48 hours.
There is not another under-21 game scheduled before transfer deadline day, and Townsend evidently feels he will not be back, regardless of whether The Guardian's report is in fact spot on.
Newcastle fans responded to his tweet, seeing it as another clear sign he is set to sign for the club.
