Former Newcastle United midfielder Rob Lee says not a single player from the current squad would get into the side he used to play in.

Lee was part of Kevin Keegan's memorable Newcastle side in the mid 1990s, to which supporters still dream their team can emulate in terms of style and league position.

Presently they are some way off, and currently are in the midst of a relegation fight after a disappointing first half of the season.

Rob Lee told Play With A Legend when asked if any one would make it into his side: "No-one. No-one would have got in. Absolutely not.”

"I look around the team and people will probably disagree with me, but I can’t see any of them getting into the team. We had a very good team. Maybe defensively we weren’t the strongest.”

That is quite a big indictment of the gap between the two sides, with Lee clearly having fond memories of the team he was a part of.

Newcastle's most talented player is arguably Georginio Wijnaldum, who signed in the summer from PSV and is their top scorer already. If he continues his progression, and plays a big part in keeping the club up, then he will surely be the nearest to convincing Lee to change his mind.
