Ferdinand made the comments during the Premier League game between Everton and Swansea City at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
During the match, young centre-back John Stones tried some fancy footwork which did not come off, leaving the home fans unhappy.
The former England international has also thanked West Ham for having patience with him and allowing him to make mistakes when he was young.
The Everton fans have got their young players in a nervous state here!! Looks like they wont allow em time to make mistakes & learn....— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) January 24, 2016
Makes me even more grateful that i was brought up at West Ham,where the fans & staff allowed for me to make mistakes while learning the game— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) January 24, 2016
Stones, an England international central defender, started the match against Swansea and played for the entire 90 minutes, as the Toffees suffered a 2-1 defeat.
The 21-year-old, who can also play as a right-back, did not have a good game and took too long on the ball in the first half.
Over the course of the 90 minutes, Stones took two shots, had a pass accuracy of 92%, created one chance, and made one interception, one clearance and one block.
