Manchester United have been scouting goalkeeper Mattia Perin, report Tuttomercatoweb.
Themselves citing reports from Sky Italia, state Perin is viewed as a potential replacement for David de Gea in case he is tempted away from the club.
De Gea signed a new contract earlier in the season, and Real Madrid's impending transfer ban makes a switch there unlikely unless they are successful on appeal.
Yet failure to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League next season will make hanging onto the Spaniard a lot harder for the Red Devils.
Perin plays for Serie A side Genoa who are in 16th place in the league, and is an Italian international, although he has not been able to dislodge the great Gianluigi Buffon as first choice.
The Mirror claimed last year that Arsenal were interested in Perin, but they are unlikely to pursue him now they have signed Petr Cech.
