Perhaps for one final time, Ashley Cole has been linked with a move to Manchester United.
The same report claims United are likely to be unsuccessful, with Cole in advanced talks with MLS side LA Galaxy over a switch.
Whether the prospect of one last crack at Premier League football at a high level is enough to tempt Cole remains to be seen.
Cole, 35, won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012, but only made 16 appearances for Roma in one and a half seasons, failing to settle in Italy.
United are keen on signing a new full back after suffering with injuries. Luke Shaw is out for the season, while Ashley Young also faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Matteo Darmian picked up a knock at the weekend, while a lack of options in central defence has meant that Daley Blind is needed to partner Chris Smalling.
Interest in Cole says not only that United are getting a little desperate, but also that the board are reluctant to back under pressure boss Louis van Gaal further in the transfer market, instead looking at a free agent addition.
