Tottenham Hotspur are still competing in three competitions this season.
Tottenham have played a core group of players in every competition this campaign, and they are still in with a chance of claiming silverware in the Premier League, Europa League and the FA Cup.
While many pundits have criticised this approach, suggesting that it could lead to fatigue, Merson takes a different view.
The former Arsenal midfielder says that Tottenham are doing the right thing by taking every competition seriously, and he feels it could stand them in good stead as the campaign progresses.
“I think sooner or later they will have to take a chance and pick and choose which matches they will go for, which should be the top four,” he said.
“But while they are at it at the moment, stay in it. We were talking about Arsenal earlier and once February comes, if they are knocked out by Barcelona, and they lose a couple of games their season is over.
“Tottenham are in the position now where they have a safety net. Keep doing what they are doing.”
Tottenham are in a position where they could create one of the most memorable seasons in recent memory.
The Lilywhites are only five points off the top of the Premier League, they have a last 32 fixture in the Europa League in February, and also a FA Cup fourth round tie against Colchester United this weekend.
