Nemanja Matic believes Chelsea can end season with silverware

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic believes that his side can win something this season if they can replicate their performance in yesterday's 1-0 win over Arsenal.

A Diego Costa strike was the difference as the defending champions gave their poor Premier League season a bright spark by beating the title challenging Gunners - completing a double over them in the process.

Matic is quoted by the official Chelsea website: "It was a big win because we are in a bad position in the table and every point for us is important, especially when you play against Arsenal in this stadium where it is always hard. We deserved to win, we showed our qualities and that we can play good football, and I am sure that until the end of the season we will show that we are still a big team and that we can win something."

It's a bit bizarre to think that the side who won last season's title would still be languishing in the bottom half of the table by the end of January, and the win moves them seven points clear of the relegation zone - with many thinking that an unlikely relegation could be off the agenda altogether.

The side still remains in two competitions for silverware. They travel to Milton Keynes in the FA Cup this weekend as they try and keep that avenue open for a trophy, while the side remains in the Champions League with a very difficult looking tie against familiar opposition in Paris Saint Germain.

It would take one huge effort to win the latter of the two prizes on offer but the opportunity to lift the FA Cup this season is certainly not impossible, especially given Chelsea's pedigree in the competition since 2007 and the competition could open up with one or two 'surprise' results.

For now, Guus Hiddink will want his side to show some consistency between now and the end of the season and show that the first half of the campaign under Jose Mourinho was something of a blip - even if it was an alarming one of that!
