Jamie Redknapp has praised Tottenham sensation Dele Alli, but says Paul Gascoigne's goal was better.

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Dele Alli scored the best goal of his career so far at the weekend, and one he may never better.

His volley against Crystal Palace instantly became the favourite to win the goal of the season competition, and confirmed his rise from promising talent to superstar in the making.

Jamie Redknapp was one pundit who praised Alli's goal at Selhurst Park, the same stadium where David Beckham netted his halfway line goal as a youngster for Manchester United against Wimbledon.

He told The Mail that while he rated Alli's goal immensely, he felt Paul Gascoigne's volley, where he too teed it up, for England against Scotland was better.

He said: "For me, Gazza’s goal was better than Alli’s, but only just. He was taking a lot of stick at the time but the occasion, the ground and the fact he was running at full tilt just about gives him the edge. But Gazza was 29 when he did that. Dele Alli is 19.

"That’s what I love about this boy. He’s got all the skill in the world but even though he’s still a kid, he has the confidence to try to pull off something special. And that’s exactly what he did."

Redknapp was actually on the pitch for England playing alongside Gascoigne when he scored that memorable goal, which will also be more fondly remembered because of the stage it was scored on.
