The Saints overcame Manchester United in dramatic fashion this weekend.
Southampton defeated Manchester United 1-0 on Saturday courtesy of a goal from debutant Charlie Austin, but the January signing was not the only stellar performer on show.
In truth every one of Ronald Koeman’s squad – both the starters and the substitutes – excelled at Old Trafford but it was in the midfield where Southampton really impressed, with Victor Wanyama and Jordy Clasie bossing the game from beginning to end.
Wanyama’s influence in the Premier League is undoubted but summer signing Clasie has divided opinion since he arrived from Feyenoord.
Injuries have taken their toll while he has been in and out of the side more recently, but against United he proved emphatically that he has what it takes to shine in the English top flight for years to come.
At 24 and with plenty of experience both at club and international level Clasie was expected to hit the ground running at Southampton, but after seemingly putting his injury problems behind him it appears Saturday was a new dawn in his career.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what Southampton fans thought of Clasie’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
If you're still not rating Jordy Clasie then you have no business watching football— Brendan Hayter (@BrezzyHayter) January 23, 2016
