Report: Norwich aiming to beat Newcastle to sign Stoke City's Mame Biram Diouf

Norwich City are reportedly hoping to beat Newcastle United to sign Stoke's Mame Biram Diouf.

According to The Sun, Norwich City are ready to battle with Newcastle United for the signature of Stoke City striker Mame Biram Diouf.

The Canaries played out a stunning 5-4 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, with Adam Lallana's injury-time winner handing the Reds all three points in a crazy game at Carrow Road.

The game saw new Norwich signing Steven Naismith open his account on his debut, having signed from Liverpool's Merseyside rivals Everton earlier this month - but manager Alex Neil may not be finished there.

The Sun report that Norwich have their eye on Stoke City forward Mame Biram Diouf - and are ready to battle Newcastle United for his signature.

It's suggested that Norwich are set to test Stoke's resolve with a bid for the 28-year-old striker, who has become a bit-part player under Mark Hughes this season.

However, it's also believed that Newcastle United are keen to land Diouf, with manager Steve McClaren aiming to add to his strikeforce during this month's transfer window.

The Senegal international hit 13 goals for the Potters last season, but with Marko Arnautovic, Bojan, Xherdan Shaqiri and Joselu impressing of late, the former Manchester United man has found first-team football hard to come by this term - and may look to leave for Norwich or Newcastle this month, if they can convince Stoke to sell their athletic forward.

Should Diouf sign for Newcastle or Norwich?
