United were thrashed 5-1 by Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup.
It was a night to forget for the Manchester United youth team in the FA Youth Cup last night, as the struggles of the club's youth team were laid out abundantly bare by their Chelsea counterparts.
United's youngsters toiled against Chelsea's and ended up losing the tie 5-1.
Charlie Scott scored United's consolation but goals from Ike Ugbo, Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Jay Dasilva and Mukhtar Ali earned Chelsea a well deserved win.
It was tough viewing for anyone connected with United, as was seen clearly on the face of current head coach Louis van Gaal.
He was speaking to David Gill, a man who marketed much of the Class of '92 brigade at Altrincham, but neither would have been impressed with what they saw.
Van Gaal and Gill are said to maintain a good relationship but it certainly appeared that van Gaal was talking the hind legs off of the former United CEO.
Gill presided over some of United's top young homegrown talent and watching this he will wonder where the next crop is coming from.
Van Gaal will certainly not be desperate to bring any through in a rush.
