The Frenchman has become an instant hit at Upton Park, with a series of impressive performances at the start of the campaign having made him a star at Upton Park.
That has led to the Hammers faithful assigning him his own song, in which they claim their newfound hero is better than Zinedine Zidane.
The song was taken up by Arsenal in recent weeks, with them instead signing the praised of their own star attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil.
Payet though, says he simply laughed when he saw the story and it’s made him more excited to take on the Gunners at the beginning of April.
“I saw videos of the Arsenal fans singing my song on social media,” he told whufc.com.
“I took it with a smile, because I've heard a lot of comparisons between me and Mesut Ozil. I think he's a truly an exceptional player who's having an unbelievable season.”
“He's had a lot to do with their league position this season. It made me laugh, I'm looking forward to West Ham Arsenal now!”
While Payet was full of praise for how Ozil has performed this season, he is sure to be focused on returning to his best in the second half of the campaign.
He has been sorely absent since his injury, but returned to fine form in the recent win over Bournemouth, with a goal and an assist to his name in the game.
That was the kind of display that was frequent before his untimely absence from the side, and the Hammers will be hoping he can continue that as they hunt a place in Europe next season.
