Warren Barton reacts on Twitter to Steve Harper's Sunderland move

Steve Harper 2

The former Newcastle defender expressed his shock in two words on social media...

Former Newcastle United defender Warren Barton couldn't quite believe what he saw in the news on Friday afternoon.

Indeed, nor could a lot of Newcastle fans, as former goalkeeper Steve Harper signed for Sunderland.

From a purely objective point of view, it makes perfect sense for the 40-year-old to join the Black Cats. He'll step in as third choice at the Stadium of Light and help coach young Jordan Pickford - perhaps giving him experience in that department if he will later go into coaching.

But, for the Magpies faithful, it might simply be a case of disbelief. There may not necessarily be any hard feelings that Harper has joined Sunderland (there may be but who knows). It's the shock that prevails, though.

Baron's tweet sums it up in two words...

A tough transfer window continues for Sunderland, with Sam Allardyce clearly doing all he can to make a good fist of things with limited resources.

Should Harper be called into action for Sunderland this season, though, it'll be interesting to see how both fans of his current club and Newcastle supporters react...
