According to the Mirror, Middlesbrough are to sign Gaston Ramirez on loan until the end of the season.
The report claims the Southampton ace has no future at St. Mary’s and after holding talks with Boro, will move to Teesside on loan until the end of the season when his Saints contract expires.
Ramirez joined Southampton from Bologna in 2012, a deal which was met with huge optimism at St. Mary’s as the Uruguay international arrived boasting an exciting reputation.
However, the 25-year-old struggled to adapt to the rigours of Premier League football and after three seasons of being on the periphery of the Saints’ first-team, he joined Hull City on loan last term, where he managed 21 league games, scoring just once.
The Mirror report that Southampton have no interest in renewing Ramirez’s whopping £65,000 per week contract and they’re actively looking to get him off the wage bill now.
Middlesbrough have been linked for much of the transfer window, and after fresh talks a deal seems to have been agreed with the playmaker heading up to the Riverside on loan.
Boro currently top the Championship table and boss Aitor Karanka feels an extra addition or two this month could prove enough to push them over the line in terms of promotion.
In spite of his struggles in the top-flight, Ramirez has an abundance of ability and regular first-team action under Karanka’s guidance could see him finally show his potential in English football.
