Previewing the game for Sky Sports, Redknapp cites City’s poor away form and the return of Dimitri Payet as two key reasons why he feels West Ham will get something from their upcoming clash.
“I don’t see Man City winning this game, I think it’s a hard fixture for them. Their away from has been bad, they haven’t beaten a team in the top six this year,” Redknapp explained.
“If Fernandinho doesn’t get a grip of Payet and stop him playing, I can see West Ham running away with it. But saying that, I fancy the draw with Sergio Aguero back. There will be loads of goals, I can see 2-2.”
City are still regarded by most as the favourites to win the Premier League title this season, yet their away form hasn’t been great and they’ve struggled to beat those around them.
Manuel Pellegrini’s men have suffered defeats to Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Stoke City and West Ham this season, while draws against United and Leicester means they’re winless against the top seven.
The Hammers, on the other hand, have performed exceedingly well against the so-called big teams with away early season victories against the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and City.
Their form at home has been good of late, and the return of the influential Payet gives them a real edge going forward which could be problematic for City if they don’t get to grips with him.
It’s all set up to be a fantastic encounter with plenty of attacking quality available on both sides.
