Former Leicester City midfielder Robbie Savage said on the BBC Radio 5 live 606 last Saturday evening (January 16) that Newcastle United will struggle to keep hold of Georginio Wijnaldum in the summer.
“At the end of the season, I think you are going to struggle to keep hold of Wijnaldum,” Savage said to a Newcastle fan during the phone-in show. “What a player!”
Wijnaldum joined Newcastle from Dutch giants PSV in the summer of 2015 and has been one of the best players for the Magpies so far this season.
The 25-year-old midfielder has scored nine goals and created 28 chances in 22 Premier League appearances so far this campaign.
The Netherlands international has a pass accuracy of 84% and a shot accuracy of 69%, and has won 13 headers, 36 dribbles and 15 tackles.
Newcastle are third from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with 21 points from 22 matches.
The Magpies are just a point behind 17th-placed Swansea City and are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
Steve McClaren’s side will take on Watford away from home at Vicarage Road in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
